Default Standard map risk on milltek 2.5" exhaust?

Just bought a 2007 STI hawkeye and it's got a milltek on, but it's a standard map. I keep seeing people commenting that it's a risky setup - should I be worried?

It looks to be catted, I'll post photos in a sec and get opinion.

Also, it's an STI.

I think you have fitted Miltek Sport cat with resonated center pipe, its OK run without the remap there,if you will want more power i would suggest remap, but until you don't need remap.

Why could have that been a risky set up?

Completely De-catting the STi can give rise to boost spikes........ needs either a re-map or messing with the restrictor pil to sort.

Yours looks OK as it seems to have a sports cat

I would have a remap if any flow changes to the downpipe if only for peace of mind but it also seems pointless improving the exhaust without getting the benefits that a remap will give. Wrx is usually more forgiving than sti but after fitting parts the remap is the icing on the cake and makes it all worthwhile. If you just want improved sound just fit a cat back then all will be fine without remap.

Boost spike can be occurred if its outside colder etc.
If you are experiencing boost spike i would recommend visit nearest Rolling road and ask about the power run with DET and afr test or visit your nearest Subaru specialist in your area.

On WRX if you are put full decatted exhaust you will be OK too without the remap, another story is on STi,due there is bigger turbo and there you can see mentioned boost spike
