Default smoke cause

Need some help here just fitted another engine to my car when it was started white smoke came out of the exhaust so far as i can tell this comes from petrol not burning right but after a couple of minutes start to get blue smoke and i have noticed oil leak where up pipe meets manifold.
what would cause this ?
Regards
Andy

Hiya mate,White smoke is usually just condensation and nothing to worry about.Oil on the exhaust I would first think rocker cover gaskets, not anything serious.
With the blue smoke more details should narrow it down,
Is it there for a short while after a cold start?
When warm does it do it all the time?
Does it just do it slightly after idling for a while when you drive off?
What year and which engine is it?
What oil are you using and when was it last changed?

Regards.

Sounds like you've done all the right things.
Something that springs to mind is that before I bought my scooby I had a BMW for a little while that was burning through lots of oil.Roughly 1.5 litres every 500 miles.
Long story short it turned out to be the crankcase ventilation valve.Instead of sending the oil back to the sump and the gasses into the air box,it jammed and was sending oil into the air box.
I don't know scooby engines well enough to know if they use the same type of setup but hopefully someone else with more knowledge will chime in.
If the engine's been rebuilt it's less likely to be rings and if the turbo was fine before I'd think it's not that.

Just to get an idea of how much it's using I'd make sure the oil's full on the dipstick and see how many miles you do until it's on the lower mark.
Some people do use some oil with every day use and the difference between low and full on the dipstick is only around 1 litre of oil.

Danny.
