Heater Maxtrix Removal
Does anyone have a guide or some tips.
I have the dash out and the heater matrix bolts/nuts off but i can't work out how to pull it out, it looks like the bar that sits behind the dash needs to come out but looking at that seems quite hard to remove.
Also does water/coolant run through the matrix as i notices a couple of pipes that come through the firewall.
Thanks

yes and yes. Assuming you're talking about a classic.
Bar needs to come out (easy, 2 bolts either side on the pillar) and the heater matrix pipes through the bulkhead need disconnecting.
Also if you have air con then it needs to be drained and dissconnected from in the car as you won't get the heater matrix away from the fan box.
Have a read of this, may help you. https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...er-matrix.html

Thanks man, mines a 2000 classic but this will definitely help.
"I tried my hardest to do it without draining the aircon but there is no way the heater box is going to come out without doing it."
Why is this?
Also is it the coolant that is running through the matrix, i'm trying to work out if when i disconnect the matrix from the engine bay is water going to drain out?
If so how do i block it off so my coolant doesn't drain out all the time?
I'm completely removing the a/c/blower system.
Thanks

The aircon rad inside the car can't be moved far enough out of the way to remove the heater matrix box, it has to be disconnected.
Yes, the coolant runs through the matrix. Disconnect the matrix hoses from the bulk head and just bung up thems with something to stop the coolant running out. If your car is stone cold then the system won't be pressurised anyway so just pointing the hoses straight up in the air should save any loss.
Tip:
Before you join the hoses back up, prefill the new matrix with coolant. This will help remove air locks.

A new matrix isn't going on, it's all coming out!
When you say coolant, i'm refering to the engine coolant, i had a look at the a/c/heater/blower system yesterday and it doesn't seem that it's connected to the engine coolant directly, but it seems it has it's only system that sends gas and liquid around it's own system, so i should be able to remove the a/c components with out any bunging of the engine coolant system, yah/na?
Thanks

Ah! You're just removing the air con. I thought you were removing the heater matrix.
If thats the case you won't need to disturb the coolant hoses joining the engine to the heater matrix.
So you have all the dash out and the metal bar, remove all the bolts from the heater matrix box, fan/motor box and air con unit.
Under the bonnet undo the 2 aluminium pipes running through the bulkhead to the air con unit inside the car. These can be found on the passenger side just by the chassis leg.
You should now be able to wiggle everything about in the car to get the air con unit out. The plastic case the air con unit is in must be refitted though.

Lol oh ****e haha, yeah i am removing the heater matrix too, there is going to be pipes in the heater matrix then too, sorry i think i've jsut understood what the hells going on haha!?
What can i block the holes with on the hoses that go to the heater matrix, hmm?
Thanks a lot for the help, i think i'm with it now lol.
