Default Novice help needed

Hi all,

I bought by first ever Scooby just over a week ago, its a GX AWD 2L in black and im rather loving it

The only thing is that it’s a little sluggish after having a Vectra before which was nice and nippy, so my question is.....

What can i do to make the car that little bit faster of the line? I’m looking to bring it up to about 175-200bhp...

I really don’t know where to start and what to look for as I have never attempted to do anything like this before and this is my first Scooby!

So any help and advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance!

No it's a GX. You won't get real power out of the NA Imprezas. It's cheaper to buy and insure a turbo Impreza than it is to get decent gains out of the NA.

start with ECU remap, induction kit and a good exhaust system

I'd be surprised if you got 40bhp more out of the GX 2.0 by conventional means. You'd have to go forced induction or throttle bodies with some aggressive cams and pistons to get any more.

The best mods are a Borla manifold for sound but a detriment to the power gains and a performance panel filter over an induction kit. You could also go for the decat route and better back box.

Essentially you should upgrade your ride and handling. Anti roll bars are a must as are better brakes. You could go for the STi/WRX suspension as a lot of members upgrade to coilovers so are selling them off cheap.

Hope this helps.

It won't really benefit you. There has to be a physical change to get more power out of the NA.

I've seen supercharged NA Imprezas before but it's costly.

I see, so would i be correct in saying that one of the avenues i could look at is having a turbo put in? can this be done in the model i have? also i am assuming that going down this road would also involve also doing other works to support this turbo option?

sorry about all the questions but i as i said i am proper novice

As already stated mate, it's not the answer you're going to want to hear mate, but it would likely be far quicker, easier and less heartache to just sell the GX, bite the bullet and pay the extra for the WRX / STI model.
If you're only coming from a Vectra even a standard WRX should seem stupidly quick in comparison.

Unless of course you have very deep pockets!

Just to clarify what's been said. It will cost more to put a turbo engine in than it will to buy a turbo Impreza.

If you can't afford to insure a turbo then it's just tough luck. Many members on here don't have turbos.
