dont think the gearbox etc would affect the rpm in neutral but i may be wrong.
sounds like it could be the dreaded big end dying

got somebody to press the clutch in and it still made the spinning knocking noise ahhh so it is not the thrust bearing. now its not idleing properly. when i was driving it back it was very quiet. not its normal rumble and struggling in high revs ?

Get a video up so we can hear the noise, then we might be able to help.

have you got an aftermarket ecu? or have you tried adjusting the throttle position sensor on the throttle body or just let it idle and give it a small firm tap with your hand and you should hear some sort of difference let me know how you get on pal?

Sorry to say it sounds like the crank bearings, prob a con rod bearing, the only other possible thing would be the clutch cover or flywheel coming loose but looking at how lumpy it seems to run when the revs drop I'd say crankshaft.
You need to get it looked at soon as mate don't drive it.

That depends on the damage, you might need a new crankshaft and rod or both, it's hard to say. It won't be a cheap job as it's engine out I'm afraid. it might be better to get a good working replacement engine, but that all depends on how bad yours is damaged.
