I've got an import WRX 96/P.

the engine has the header/resivior top up box on the left and overflow on the right.

Should the pipe on the overflow tank be connected to anything?mine is just pushed by the battery. If it does need connecting where does it go?

If you mean the one that comes from the expansion bottle cap then yes it just hangs down beside the battery, it's just an overflow.
