Default Apexi FC ECU + AVC-R

I read that the AVC-R is a smart piece of kit but if I were to get one, would my car benefit if it were setup professionally? I already have an Apexi ECU mapped by Andy Forrest?

it is best to have it set up by someone who knows what they are doing, or it could be BANG time from the engine.

it will allow finer boost control over what the apexi ecu on its own. at a guess you must have....

the standard boost set up
apexi boost control kit
bleed valve of some sort

and over any of them the avcr will be better

I thaught about this also but got advice from a mapper that a 3 port boost solenoid would be just as afective as the apexi has multiple boost options as it is.

on the apexi ecu, you can have up to 4 different boost elvels saved/set, and the avcr has 2.

but it all depends on your level of tune as to weather you would benfit from having a avcr. it will control the boost a v lot more than just a 3 port on its own with the apexi ecu

Thanks for all your advice Ian. I am able to select 4 different boost settings using the Apexi monitor but I dont think my level of modifications merits having an AVC- R also.

It is quite different having the 4 options through the Apexi hand commander and the AVCR.
I had the same setup as you and I liked changing through 4 boost levels but boost was the same through all the rev range/gear.

When I fitted the AVCR, I had the mechanical boost pressure (set by the wastegate actuator at 0,9bar) and 2 other boost levels (Setting A and B).
Setting A is set to a mild boost level of 1.3 bar. I mainly use it when travelling. Boost is the same across all gears and revs.
Setting B is set to a mix of boost levels and duties across the gears and revs. I have configured it to higher peak boost at lower gears (1.65 bar) and gradually lower boost as you shift to 4th(1.55 bar)/5th(1.40 bar)/6th(1.30 bar) gears. This WILL transform you car to a much more enjoyable companion! For me, there is no comparison to how the car was before and how it is now.
