Default MAF Sensor Cleaning ? or is it something else ?!?!

Hi Guys,

As some of you are more than likely aware I have recently gone FMIC from TMIC, as such I have had to change the way the CAI kit is to get the pipe work in place.

Anyway the FMIC was installed and tested (off boost) which seemed fine (perfect idling and throttle uptake), however the car has been stood a few days, and today I went to drive to work in it (again off boost) and the car seemed very lumpy idling, but I put this down to it being stood for a few days, I tootled off to work (2.5 miles) and the running was terrbile until about 500yrds from work when it started to run fine again. I put this down the FMIC changing the way the intake is now performed, but surely this shouldnt hinder tick over? So I unplugged the MAF and started the car up, it ticked over perfect . So I assumed it was the MAF, so I now need to know how to clean one please ?

Also the car flashed up with the engine check light when I unplugged the maf which is to be expected, but it read the following fault codes, IAT, MAF, Misfire cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4. (how many )

As said the car has been run off boost and not even tickled since the FMIC install, but I would like to get to the bottom of this tomorrow.

As for the required remap this is scheduled for in a couple of week time, hence my car not really going anywhere in the meantime.

The cure for me although im not recommended it was brake cleaner. I sprayed it onto the IAT probe (visable part) and onto the MAF sensor (in the tube), the brake cleaner I used dried almost instantly which put my mind at rest.

I fitted the MAF back onto the car within 10 mins, it fired up with no hesitation, so I went for a drive and it seems spot on considering I need a remap. The Engine Check light did not re-appear

Rob

EDIT = This is the stuff, I can forward it onto you if you like?

Dirty MAF and an accumulation on the air temperature sensor so I guess it is an STi.
Spraying these two components with an aerosol brake cleaner is the normal cure. Does not always work but then the problem is not always dirt.
Your package arrived this morning thank you.

Yes sorry I should have said in the original post, 2002 STI UK. I googled the cleaning of a Subaru MAF, and google returned quite a few american forums where brake cleaner appears to be a taboo, so I wasnt confident using it, but clearly it worked for me, not that for a minute im recommended this to anyone else

Excellent
