hi just got a 2001 bug eye wrx will it have a cat in the up pipe i have herd there started putting them in on the 02 to 05 thanks

 

yes it will have the cat in the up pipe.

 

Its worth replacing with a decatted one if you are taking the turbo off.

 

I've had a few mods done to my WRX but I can feel the difference the 'big Harv de-cat up-pipe' made more than any other mod.

I know STI owners report 300rpm earlier spool and about 10bhp extra but it must be far more on a WRX being a cat there.

 

You'll also get increased engine noise inside the car once de-catting the up-pipe (I noticed it more than when I removed the downpipe cat on my bug!)

Definitely worth removing though as you do hear horror stories about bits of the cat going through the turbo and destroying it!
