Question Apexi power fc

Thinking of getting an apexi power fc ecu and hand commander. Is there any downside to buying a used one. Ie is it possible for a previous mapper to lock the ecu?

Thanks

Really the downside is the boost control. The Apexi has very limited settings for wastegate duty and boost target, ultimately you need an Apexi AVCR to start to hope to control it perfectly, so it is very much a compromise using just the ECU. That said they do work and get results, but my recommendation would be to go aftermarket ecu, i.e. Simtek really.

You can't lock the Apexi, although not sure why that would be an issue as you'd need it remapped to suite your car anyway.

Hope this helps,

Graham

Yeah my original plan was to go simtek but thought if I was only gaining a/l and l/c I'd be able to save myself a few quid. Now it looks like it won't! What are your thoughts on ecutek bud?

I assume by the picture you're running a 99/00 classic? Ecutek works, but has a 5% failure rate on your type ECU, a slight drop in voltage will kill the ECU. Ecutek costs you approx £650 all in, a Simtek is £1074 fitted and mapped and does away with the troublesome maf that you have.
Ecutek will provide a solution for you, however there are limitations to this in terms of your maf and how far you want to go with the car.

If it were my car I'd fit a Simtek rather than faf with Ecutek and you will retain OEM cold start and idling as well as have an ECU that can take you well beyond the standard ECUs capabilities.

Give me a call if you want to talk options, I can do both.
