no 3 is my favorite, sandwhich plates arnt accurate and having it in the sump plug is asking for it to be knocked off.

just my thoughts

Had it above no3 cylinder for a while, then moved it onto a sandwich plate behind the oil filter.....readings are exactly the same Much easier to access under the car as appose to removing the ic when you need access to the sensor!

The No3 cylinder position isn't the easiest to GET AT, no, but you should only need to access the sender once: when it's fitted.

The sender is there for a reason: No3 cylinder is known to be the one that runs hot, so prior warning would be good

In my mind, there is one place for that sender, and one only: the one Subaru tapped into the block for it

just take the topmount off and you will see a 10mm allen key plug, its next to the flywheel inspection cover. if you can get hold of another pressure switch addaptor from off the front of the engine that is the correct size you need to fit the temp sensor. also be very carfull fitting the temp sensor in to the adaptor as they thred very easily and the thred is tapered

The TEMPERATURE sender goes in the tapping above cylinder No3. It MIGHT need an adaptor, my Defi one did, but the gauge manufacturer/seller will know and may be able to supply. Scoobymania sold me mine, they told me it needed one without me asking. It was machined light alloy and cost about £6.

The PRESSURE sender goes in the tapping that Subaru use for the oil pressure warning light switch. It's on the front face of the block, under the alternator. You can get to it easily by swinging the alternator out of the way. Mine, (Defi again), went straight in and the old switch is on a shelf in my garage, being redundant as the Defi gauge has a settable warning light/buzzer. Some have larger senders that won't fit there. Most people put theirs, in that case, in the same spot but via a T-piece and flexible hose, allowing the sender to fit and the pressure switch to be used too.

In the end, Subaru decided where these should fit in order to best monitor the engine. Who are we to change them?
