Default Unequal Length Headers

Hey, I am after changing my equal length headers to unequal length headers. My local garage had them available but has now sold them. He said he has available a set of ported std headers complete with the uppipe. All I am after is the loud rumble sound for my car, will this do the trick. Any advice is great! Cheers, Sarah xx

What model is it? the standard unequal length headers will give you the 'burble' whether it is loud or not will be dependant on the rest of your exhaust system.

Its a Subaru Impreza WRX, 1995 import spec. So what are the ported std headers complete with the uppipe that the garage is offering me instead? x

Speak to Harvey with regards to ported standard headers! He will give you the full advice you need.

yes ported OE headers will give you back the burble...volume is going to be dictated by the rest of your exhaust system...OE headers are cast iron and not really restrictive until over 350\350 iirc.

i have ported std headers and full 3inch clinic exhaust this system rumbles great,

ported headers will
1,give you a good performance gain over the standard versions,
2, wount crack like most uprated headers that are cheap, not like the rcmversion or etc
3, will give you the rumble back what you have lost having equal length,

To get the full rumble you will want full 3in bell-mouth system,no cats
a blitz nur spec will sort that, these come up cheap second hand on here, There was a aps full 3.5inch system sell for £150 ish last week!!

As trails said they will do the trick and give you better flow characteristics due to being ported I presume, but if all you are after is the 'burble' then wouldn't it be cheaper to source some oe headers? (depending on the price that the garage is selling the ported ones at)

The OEM ones are the 'most enequal' you can get, so will give you the 'most' burble. If you get an exchange set of ported OEM ones from harvey (plus maybe an exchange OEM ported uppipe, of optimal size for your turbo's needs, while you're at it) - all DEI heatwrapped - then you're good to go.

For the volume, for decent quality and VFM, I recommend a Cobra turbo-back decat system, with the centre pipe being the straight-through, de-resonated version. The noise'll rip your **** off!

I had the above combo on my previous 93 WRX - burbley as hell, loud and throaty. Neighbours 'love' it.

Despite appearing aged now, a 1995 Impreza is actually quite well insulated from exterior noises. Tell him to roll the windows down a tad and drive through a tunnel.

Having written that, noise is subjective, so maybe he'll still think it sounds wimpy. Imprezas can be very bassy in the exhaust. Bluntly, this can upset neighbours and lead to stress/unrest.

I can vouch for that! I've had a letter off the council telling me not leave my car idling for a minute before i pull off in the mornings (going to work around 0630), cos someone has complained to them and had noise monitoring equipment in their house. Apprently its 17 - 25db when it's quiet, but goes up 30db when I start up the scoob!

Send a letter back to the council telling them you intend to take legal action against them for stress and emotional damage caused from the threatening letter.

Surely they cant do that its your car and there are no noise regulations in the mot test therefore you have the right to run it for as long as you like, you have paid you £220 road tax per year....

are you sure? 25db is very quiet. like the sound of some breathing at 1m. the 6db increase is only double the loudness.

3db doubles so 6db is double double but thats still quiet, probably more like 50db at idle to give the neighbours a shock
