Default Neutral Position Switch?

Hi All,

I’m Richard, new member as of this morning. I am the proud owner of an 02 plate Impreza WRX. I have had the car just under 2 years and have a smile on my face every time I drive it.

Recently it has developed an annoying issue the symptoms of which are covered in this post https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...6-misfire.html . In short if I drive the car hard in 3rd or 4th gear the engine management light flickers and then stays on. Previously after 50 or so miles the light would eventually turn off; however it’s refusing to budge now. I have had the fault codes checked which have reported cylinder misfires, however the car sounds and drives absolutely fine.

Unfortunately I am not the most mechanically minded person in the world so was hoping for some recommendations for people to use in the Ipswich area. I know full well that if I take the car to anyone but a Subaru specialist diagnostics will go on forever and cost me a fortune.
Appreciate any help/advice you guys can offer.

Cheers,
Richard

Definitely the nuetral position switch.

I am not far away from you based in Cambridge, but to be honest I wouldnt have any doubt in this diagnosis.

£45 part from your local subaru dealer and about 10 minutes to fit for you.

What does the NPS do/ activate on a wrx? Assuming it's non jdm and doesn't have AVCS?

Just a really confusing and annoying collection of CELs. Most often misfire codes and cam position sensor and sometimes a flashing CEL.

They are a good bunch of guys down there generally speaking albeit limited in their application of real world tuning like almost all subaru dealers but the NPS is a £45+vat part and a 15 minute fitting so really should be bread and butter for them.
