in what way would this change the sound of the exhaust? does make it quiter? as I have problems with the neighbours (don't appreciate the sweet rumble of impreza) lol

Yes, the center res does make quite a difference.

 

I have one on mine, cobra sport with a back box, and a different decat downpipe, it is about the same as the non-resonated middle I took off!

 

I switched from a non resonated decat centre to a resonated on my '99 car.

It made it very slightly quieter, but the main difference was the loss of reverberation in narrow streets and car parks.

It no longer triggered as many car alarms, and my wife was slightly less embarrassed to drive it.
