£32000 for insurance ! I always wanted a Fiesta or Escort RS which were both 1.6 turbos. They're a bit old now but there are some good well maintained examples still around. I'd assume the insurance might be a bit lower on these cars than an Impreza. I never quite bit the bullet to get the Fiesta RS..opted for a cheaper XR2i but regretted it. Was still a fun ride and I wasnt that old when I had the XR2i.
I've not personally modified a standard non-turbo 1.6 and added a turbo but I'd imagine insurance might be quite high as it's a big mod and many companies may not insure a young person who's done this kind of mod. Good luck with it though as it was always something I wanted to do

Had an Escort RS Turbo 12 years ago, worst car ever made, looked nice though.
I got quoted nearly £10,000 a few months back for a standard WRX, 33yo with 8 years NCB!

its just coz ive got a major project in mind! and a friend of mine whos in insurance tells me the turbo mod would mean insurance companies would class it as a 1.8 so fingers crossed it'll be ok!! as i said its a major project planned and theres alot of conversions needed

many years ago when i was 18 i looked at a turbo conversion for a cavalier sri, iam telling you my insurance didnt class that mod as just a slighty higher cc size .
It wouldve gone from a then crazy £1500 to over £4000, was never gonna happen so stuck with the stock car
