Default Is this misfiring due to spark plugs needing to be replaced?

Hi guys

This is the read out for my car. For my ECU reader.

Replacement exhaust fitted didn't fix the issue. The downpipe was blowing anyway, so it needed doing

I'd be looking at MAF / Lambda sensor issues....... maybe a mapper would step in

Well my ECU light came on again today, after my plugs have been fitted, and new exhaust.

Back to the drawing board.

The ECU error was coming up prior to the exhaust upgrade so it seems that the issues are not just down to needing a remap?

You can mess around with the exhaust quite a bit on the 02 WRX..........the ECU simple adjusts air /fuel etc. My guess would either be a faulty MAF or Lambda, usually it's the heater circuit on the Lambda so for your P0171 CEL I'd think about swapping the MAF for a known working one, maybe your local scooby crew has a spare lying about he could loan you.

If you reset the ecu and leave it ticking over for a while does the light come on? Or is it only under load etc?

Just check there are no pipes disconnected.

The light doesnt come on for a good 100 or so miles, but seems to eventually come on when doing over 80mph.

I only use Shell V-Power Kosta

I know a place near where my dad works that has a working MAF for £30. I will get him to pop there and buy that, for the sake of £30 it may fix the issue.

At this rate you're changing everything mate! I told you I wasn't convinced it was an exhaust leak causing the 02 sensors to make the car run so badly... right about now I would be booking the car in for a rolling road diagnostics or similar. If you keep changing things you could just be chucking money away and not getting anywhere..

BTW you will get a CEL light from the 02 sensor as you've now decatted. That is for certain, I can't remember that CEL code though, think it's P0420 - cat below threshold or something? So expect that at some point.

Aye, I've just text Duncan @ racedynamics, he should help. My exhaust and plugs needed doing anyway, so that's why I got them done, hoping that they fixed the issue I was having.

My exhaust was blowing, 3 different mechanics told me that anyway. And I found out that at the 60k service everything except the spark plugs were changed, so they needed swapping out anyway.

Coolio, thanks will have to have a looky. For what it's worth I had the exact same CEL come on the other week, P0171 too lean etc, came on at a steady 80mph same as you. I put it down to some bad fuel. But yours could really be anything now :O

My car has been running under powered for a few weeks now, I think partly I'm looking for things that make me thing my car is not feeling right. I might get my mate at work to give my car a drive to see if he thinks there is a power issue still. Paranoia can do horrible things to your mind.
