gearbox choice
once i have my car back on the road im thinking of heading for the 400+bhp mark thing is i know the box wont last to long at that hp and only really take around the 360-380.i cant afford a 6 speed as yet but would like to know if there is a box that would take that sort of power.im not in to fast launches so no worrys on that front.
thanks stve
thanks stve
someone posted the other day about a hawkeye box but was a rare one as it still had a pull clutch design ?? also it had female input shafts though so those would need changing too, still not cheap
hopefully some one will comment on this
ty754 box afaik is only good for 350/350 long term

I wouldnt even trust a ty754 box for 350lbs of torque, consider 300lbs tops and anything above that a bonus until it breaks.
The only box to go for would be a 6 speed, rather than up the power to 400bhp and similar torque, concentrate of the supporting modifications or have your car sitting in the garage/on the drive for long periods of time with broken parts

The biggest difference between the ty752 and ty754 is the casing is reinforced, the gear sets are not that much stronger, a uk gearset on a ty754 isnt as strong as a JDM sti gearset on a ty754 because those are supposedly cryo hardened.
More than enough ty754 gearboxes will break at over 300lbs of torque, some do less, no where near as many do more, the more miles on them the more wear, the more chance of failure.
300lbs is a good estimate of what the gearset can do, not how strong the casing is

thanks for the information Tony, cryogenically hardened gearset,
i never knew that, time to do a little investigation on that and maybe its time for my mate to source ty754vb box and matching diff then ??
six speed box but £2000+ is a good investment but bit more than he wants to spend having just stuck a new 5 speed lightned flywheel and pink excedy in few weeks ago.thanks again
