Default Broken Ultralite wheelnut help required please

Bad times today i tried to remove my wheels to fit the new shiny brake system that i had saved up for for some time only to have my ultralite wheel nut sheer off, basically the outer shroud has split that is reinforcing it and when any pressure is applied it just forces the nut apart.
Is there an easy way of removing it without drilling the wheel stud and then replacing both?
I have looked at extractors and wondered if there was an internal variant.

Any ideas folks look forward to hearing some solutions...

Gutted for you mate, I have recently had five alloy nuts snap on me. Four on one wheel which ended up costing me a new wheel and four new studs it also took three if us five hours and 12 drill bits to get the old wheel off.

The fifth snapped nut was removed by taking off the other four and forcing the wheel off with alot of force and and rather large scaffold pole all done in the capable hands of mags at ruislip tyres. If you are near to him give him a shout as he is a top bloke and will be able to help

do you mean the nut type that u put a bolt head shaped shaft in ?

if so, can u get a jubilee clip round it? that would hold it together so you could get the shaft in n undoo the nut

Yeah that's the type I think maybe that water may have gotten under the shroud and expanded in the colder months. The outside split and separated so the knurled bit and part of the nut is removed so the jubilee option is out I'm afraid. There are a few more which have split but the jubilee technique should work on those. I may try and bond a bolt into the remaining thread and try to remove it that way. Fingers crossed as the 18" speedline pff7s that are on it are less than six months old and still immaculate

well, for that one problem nut, you could try drilling whats left with a very small drill. do a couple of holes in a line out from the centre of the nut, then try n split it with a coal chisle

Gents thanks for all ideas ended up trying the jubilee idea but they weren't strong enough. Had to chisel the remainder of the nut housing off with a wood chisel, then hammered a 19mm socket over the top making sure exposed areas of the wheel were protected with tape and card. I then prayed as I used the ratchet to release nut as normal, happy days nut off no wheel damage :-) I will be using different nuts now and removing the remainder which I will never use again
