Default Variable Valve Timing Solenoid P1306

Hope someone can guide me here, my JDM V7 STI keeps chucking me 2 fault codes. These go on and off when driving and it has happened since I swapped out my engine recently (for the same type engine and the loom stayed the same).

P1306 Variable Valve Timing Solenoid Valve 1 Circuit - Low input
P0172 Fuel Trim Malfunction (NF too rich)

Looking at the Solenoid itself I wondered if you can just pull the solenoid out or you need to remove the whole assembly?? There appears to be just one fixing bolt for the main solenoid, I removed that and it moves but there is some resistance, anyone any ideas??

As for the P0172 I am seeing some 'baggy' intercooler pipes since the swap, could that be causing that code?

I am a little confused on the next steps to take, also if anyone has a solenoid for sale I would be interested as I figure my one is goosed. And one last question; safe to drive around in as long as off boost???

Thanks.
