What does it take?
I am wanting to run 12's in the 1/4 mile with my 97 STI Wagon. Right now it is all stock with a 2.5" Cat-back exhaust and a turbo timer.
I have been looking online at parts, but am not finding too much info on the early model STIs...
I am a noob when it comes to subaru's as I am more of a V8 guy... I am in Japan, and am picking up my wagon beginning of April. Back in the states, I drive a nicely modded 88 Firebird Formula 350.
Let me know a few ways to get some more power out of the scooby.

I think the 97 Impreza doesn't have a mappable ecu! If so there is your first issue, but I'd start off with full decat, walbro 255 fuel pump, decent panel filter and a remap, in your case it could be an expensive option as you'll possible need a replacement ecu.
Those mods wil give you a good increase next you'd be looking at turbo, fmic, injectors and remap again.
Your first bet is to find out about your current management! And cost of replacement if needed! Or a 99/2000 car as they have a mappable ecu as standard.

with regards to the ecu you can get a Dastek Unichip Q piggy back.
there are a few cars in my local owners club with them and they seem to give good results. one guys got 318bhp with a decat, k&n and vf34 on a 96 wrx.
you can also add in switchable maps so can have eco mode or antilag etc.
dont know where you are but DS Automotives in Aylesbury (01296420000) sell the Unichips and Dave is the badgers nadgers when it comes to mapping.

Well that kinda sucks. I guess I will have to drive it for a while... I'll just invest in a stereo system... It is all stock except for exhaust and a Turbo Timer. I believe it has the EJ22T engine. It is a 5 speed as well. It needs some TLC, but there are tons of Scooby's here and off base at the junkyards.

Well, turns out the car is a 95. So that would make it a 2.0 correct? Which years got the 2.2? Don't know how that changes things.
I would like some more power though... so Boost Controller? Car has exhaust.

I'm not sure. I just want it to be quick. I don't care for 12's. My buddy got a 97 WRX wagon too, so we are going to mod ours and I want to be quicker. Where should I start with mods though?

Quick in a straight line. Suspension work is pretty straight forward. I just don't know how to go about modding a turbo car. I am sure the basics, exhaust, intake... Those are done. What comes next? Pushing more boost? How would I go about that? From what I read, the VF39 can take some more boost safely.
