Hi guys i have an 1997 impreza turbo uk and when its running or ticking over all i can hear is a high pich noise. Its like when a phone line goes dead but a bit higher pitch, even when car is parked up ticking over its still doin it. Its coming from near back passenger side somewere. Could it be the fuel pump, or what else could it be. Thanx

 

sounds like the fuel pump, thats in that area and could make that sound.

 

As above, worth checking it, if its original it'll be 14 years old. Walbro 255 is cheap enough and worthwhile

 

if you turn the ignition on but dont start it and leave the dorr open and listen you should hear it prime then go off, seei if its same/similar

 

yes mate its the same noise but it only continues when car is running, when i put ignition on, it comes on and then goes off this i no is normal. do you no were the fuel pump is located on my car. Thanx

 

sounds like the pump is knacked mate, it should be in the boot lift up the carpet and stick the back seats down asyour looking in on the right you will see a small oval hatch thats it there, thats the inspection chamber undoo the bolts disconnect wiring and the pump is beneath it from what i remember from classic days, or are some under the rea seat drivers side, sure its boot,
get yourself a walbro 255 refit job done

 

it should run obviously when car is on lol, but shouldint be that loud?? but you can hear it
