Default Fuel control

A good friend of mine has one of the original STi classics. Number 134.

When he starts it up, it will run perfectly until the engine begins to warm up. It then starts to run erratically as far as the idle speed is concerned and it seems as though it is running on the rich side. It would not pass the emission test for MOT.

He checked the temperature sender which does alter its resistance as the sensor is heated.

Can anyone please give a clue what he should be checking next in order to cure the problem?

Idle control valve may need a clean out, but if he gives it a go, make sure he marks the position, before removing.
