Default Oxygen Sensor

Hi All,

Anyone know if Denso O2 sensors (for a 2002 WRX) are any good and last the test of time or are they likely to fail after a few months. Main dealer prices are massive and I am looking for a cheaper option, any recommendations.

Cheers

Cheers for that Jura, this is exactly where I've seen them but just want to check if they are any good and last.

I've heard that only main dealer ones last and all others either do not work at all or fail after just a couple of months.

I'd personally buy the OEM one (expensive) - but you know it'll still be working in 10 years time.

Or Bosch do equivalent I think - see if there's one available on Just Lambda's website...

From what you guys say then, I may be best to just try out the Denso and save a shed load of cash.

Jura, how long ago did you fit yours and is it still going well?

Oh joz8968, I cannot reply for some reason on the other thread listed regarding offsets. I agree with you and will just send back the spare alloy I had - long story and not very interesting. Thanks for your advice.

Am I correct in saying there are two sensors, as I believe I need the upper one of the two. Aztec, do you also do these?

You have 2 sensor, one is Pre-CAT(Uppipe) and one is at Downpipe. If its front lambda sensor which you fail, this will be pre-cat lambda sensor(which is located at Uppipe)

Hi Jura,
I am not 100% sure which one has gone wrong but I think it is the upper one. Are both the same or different?

Best way how to check is OBD reader, matey.OBD reader will tell you exactly which one is.Get this ASAP sorted, because you can suffer higher MPG and on longer run you can damage engine....

As said by others the OE part is made by Denso just the stealer do exactly that. I have the one of ebay 2 had it fitted for about 3/4 months no issue, Infact the garage I had mine fit at bought a load to stock up as they were cheaper there than there supplier.

Use Import Car Parts. They were doing the front ones for £129.00 and they are from Subaru.

Thanks for all your help everyone. I will go with the Denso now with confidence.

Jura, you mentioned engine damage if left for too long. I have been running the car with the knackered o2 sensor for about 6 months...I am now right in the brown stuff? Is this why the turbo has started to whine and tapids knock when cold?

Hi there bad O2 sensor can cause overfueling(rich mixture),because compensating engine automatically enriches the mixture to protect the engine and later can damage engine.Any changes in the sensor output will be ignored in this state, as are changes from the air flow meter, which might otherwise lower engine performance due to the mixture being too rich or too lean, and increase the risk of engine damage due to detonation if the mixture is too lean.
Probably worth visit Independent Subaru Specialist and can ask for compression test for piece of mind...About the turbo if its not smoke on boost turbo is OK,but as above recommend Subaru Specialist, for further investigation and if its something for worrying or no......

Thanks Jura.

A mate of mine is a Subaru mechanic and has already done a compression test to check head lift or crank case crack due to experiencing engine knocking (tapids but also a slight knock at about 2500 rpm deep within engine), oil consumption and air in heater matrix etc - all down to the need for a catch tank. Not done this yet.

Yeah, no smoke as yet from turbo but whine does give concern. Suppose just keep an eye on it and wait for it to give up.

I'll just get the o2 sensor changed along with the catch tank anmd see how it goes.

Thanks for your assistance mate, much appreciated.
