Default TESTING HEATER MATRIX FOR LEAKS

Hi hoping some one can give me abit of advice, i've removed my heater matrix core as i suspect it is the cause of a leak into my passenger footwell, however it looks fine (although looks can be deceiving) does any one know how i can test it? any help would be great
the cars a 97 impreza 2000 turbo
there was water init when i removed it

Only fill it and leave to stand on paper to show the leaks.
