Default removing speedo cable from dials

Hi people, i have a 97 impreza 2000 turbo facelift and im having to remove the dashboard to check out the heater matrix, everything is undone apart from the speedo cable, ive searched around but the answer just seems to be pull off speedo cable and remove clocks, however i can barley get my hands behind the clocks and even then i cant feel a cable to detach im hoping someone can point me in the right direction, any hints would be great

the cable on the rear of the speedo is just a clip, i know its a tad long winded but you might benfit from undoing it from the gearbox ?

IIRC, you feel for the clip and squeeze, push in then pull out.

It IS tight back there so as above?

Release the clocks first and unplug all the electrics, you can then get your hand behind the clocks and release the speedo cable.
