ra or not ra?
hi guys!not sure if my cars type ra or "just wrx"gets to about 45 1st 56 2nd 8o 3rd. this seems to short gearing for wrx to me.cars a 93,chassis no-gc8-009954, engine model EJ20.got air con etc,but could of been factory extras.this is my first dabble with scoobys so any help/ideas would be usefull.

RA will have a roof vent and 19 mph @1000 rev in 5 th gear!!!

early RA's have no roof air vent.

 

no roof vent mate,spos somebody could fitted gearbox? sounds about right gear speeds on sidc faq. any more clues any one?

This may help :

No interior grab handles.
No boot light.
5th injector.
80mph > 4000rpm in 5th (as Darren says should be ~4200 if speedo is correct).

I have a 95 RA (same model type/shape)
I have an electronic centre diff
intercooler water spray
Lightweight interior roof lining (no grab handles)
No electric windows
I do have Air con but I understand this was an option
The handles and wing mirrors are not colour coded.
I think originally they came with no rear wing
I have no side skirts either
Oh and 80 ish mph at 4000 in 5th

cheers guys,lots of things for me to have a good look round the car for, off hand i know theres no grab handles,i do have electric windows though.80 in 5th 4000 rpm.are there any benefits to being an ra,other than standard wrx, ie performance wise or are they not so good? i know this car felt quicker than others i test drove, but i know no two cars are the same.

Quicker acceleration due to the closer matched gears. When you move to the next gear you are still in the sweet spot as they are only a few hundred revs apart.

Your bonnet should be significantly lighter also. Try lifting a normal one. Yours is aliminium. Easiest way though is to check the chassis number against those above. Sounds like an very early STi before they were badged as such though. Although electric windows may have been added later.

Just to chip in about gearing, I have a 93WRX GC8A48 styley, and mine will strike the rev limiter hard in second gear at around 54-5 mph as well. I have 16" wheels as oppose to standard 15" ers so speedo might be slightly out.

Basically sounds like similar ratios to your box though 'and as far as I know' it's a standard 93WRX (got the excellent but mildly cheesy WRX sticker on the back as well )

Can't do much past 105 mph I think in 4th. Can't make the 112mph speed limiter cut in anyway....

How can you tell an early (unbadged) STi ? My MY95 WRX RA ? shares the same chassis No ( GC8C47D )with the STi of that year.
Apparently the early STi' were modified from production WRX's

Spec -

CR box
Ally arms
No grabs
No adj centre diff
No elec winds
No C/locking
No ABS
No spot lights
No roof vent
No rev limiter at 7500 ! Pull clean past 8000 but no power there !
5th injector
I/C water spray
Vented rear discs
