ok cool just trying to figure if i need a ecu for mapping cause my tuner said this--
Version 1 & 2 factory ECU's are tuneable no problem as they use the more straight forward 8 bit technology If you have a version 3 or 4 cheapest most tend to opt for PowerFC plug n play L Jetro as you can pick one up for around 3-400quid 2nd hand (simples) or if you own a later 2000 onwards then the factory ECU can be tuned via the ODB II port (meaning I dont even need to remove the ECU)
so by what he is saying i will need a new ecu for mapping cheers for the help guys all i know is my ecu is a 3 plug type will check the website tommorow and the numbers

Yup looks like a uk car, front washers on the bumper are a bit of a givaway, so your car will be an MY97 most likely.
Dont go by versions as only Classic STI's had these starting from 2 thru 6, the MY from 93-96 had an ecu that you could "chip", the MY97-98 cars you cant do anything with ecu wise except go after market, the MY99-00 cars had mappable ecu's.

Oh yeah I forgot... For some reason the UK Classics stopped at "H" (not "G") for the Model Year, so the UK's "E" is the equivalent to the Jap's "D".
So yes, as said, you have a "phase 1.5" UK MY1997 Turbo 2000 4WD with 211PS (208bhp), and 214lb ft, as std.
(For the record a "phase 1.5" MY1998 would be the same outwardly and mechanically as a MY1997 -- but would have had the facelifted interior).
P.S. And yes, I wrote the "K" in the wrong position, earlier lol
