Default rattling downpipe wrx classic?

since i fitted my second hand decat exhaust system, i have had rattling noise which sounds like the exhaust is hitting something/moving too much.
when i jacked the car up, i put my ear next to the downpipe and it sounds like it is coming from inside the downpipe.
a friend said it could be the COF sensor?

any body else had this?

Mate just a suggestion, when I fitted my decat, there are 2 points at which it bolts to car. First on gearbox, then just before middle section, my second joint, the one near the end of decat, rattled against cars fixing. I had to bend fixing out of way as couldne get to match with downpipe. Failing that, all your bolts are tight on turbo?

the one before the centre section flange, i have checked that and its not affecting it!

it now sounds like it is coming from the top of the DP where it meets the turbo. to be more specific i thought it was he actuator arm going on to the turbo, as when i touch it, it rattles lots.
i put some pressure on the arm to stop it rattling and it went a bit quieter but its not the main cause.

Personally, 'if' the noise is inside, i'd remove the pipe and have a look with a torch. At the end of the day it is going to have to come off if there is some thing rattling inside it .

As above, take the pipe off and inspect inside the pipe and check the shaft in the turbo for excessive play.

Fwiw the actuator arm should be tight, if it's rattling then the chances are the wastegate isn't being held shut correctly which could cause a rattling sound. Pushing the arm by hand wont apply as much pressure as the actuator rod would so try tightening the arm to half a hole preload on the wastegate arm pin and see if that helps.

you'll see on the wastegate that there's a rod/arm which connects to the actuator via a pin and c clip, you need to get the actuator arm just shorter than the arm of the wastegate, when holding the actuator arm over the wastegate pin you want it set so you only see half of the pin through the hole, you're aiming to have to pull the actuator arm onto the wastegate arm so that there's a bit of pressure pulling the wastegate shut at all times, just dont tighten it too much as you'll hit overboost all the time.

hth

the bit that is loose is the end of the arm that goes into the turbo. you can push it down towards the turbo and it stop the rattling!

are you talking about an adjustment for this or for the arm itself?
thanks

So you need to shorten the arm a little. Do it so when replacing the pin, you need to pull it half of the hole, just you it is under tension.
