This might be a stupid question, but I have a 2C ECU which came in my 93 WRX (currently has the general_sarcasm chip installed)

Now i just received my ESL today, and this is fitted in a U8 ECU.... Now this is gonna be mapped by Duncan, but is it better to have the ESL in the U8 ECU, or remove the ESL and install it in my 2C?

 

The ESL is a complete board, fit it as you got it its just housed in the metal case the numbers mean nothing really as its an ESL board inside.

 

as above it really doesn't matter what ecu the ESL board is fitted to as it over rides it anyway.

 

So all the safety features which the ESL keeps from the standard ECU are the same on both ECU's? ie fault codes and what not.

 

It makes absolutly no difference which one you use mate. Both ECUs are the same:

U8, 2C - 1993/1994 WRX
TDO5-11.47PSI (0.8BAR) TO REDLINE
FUELCUT 14.5PSI (1BAR)
240PS (237BHP)

Personally, i would leave it in the one it arrived in, just saves any unfortunate mishaps. I'm sure Duncan will advise on the day and i can't see it being a big job should you 'need' to swap it.

 

ESL is only a daughterboard mate. It sits 'with' the OE board and does not phyically 'relpace' it. Hence Jamz question about retaining OE safety features.

Quite alot of the ECUs use the same maps.

 

there will be a very subtle difference between the two, but once a chip is fitted it wont make any difference anyway.
