Pipes under carpet

Please can someone tell me what the pipes are that run under the carpet on the passenger and drivers sides of the car. (Covered by white plastic shielding).
Thought that they may be fuel/brake pipes, but my helpful Halfords geezer assures me that they cannot be fuel lines, most probably electrical? (But why in metal tubes?).
Confused....help.

Hi Terry
left side of car definately fuel pipes.look under bonnet you will see where they come throgh the bulkhead.right side is electics going to door lights/elecy windows/fuel pump+guage/rear lights etc

Also brake piping......think of where Subaru have come from....4wd off-roaders for farmers....they ALWAYS routed the brake pipes inside the floorpan so they didn't get squashed/ripped off when traversing the ploughed field.....as you do
