Default is 3.5 miles to little?

my new workplace is about 3.5 miles from home and is a steady drive, is it going to kill my engine if i use it daily or is it long enough for the oil to warm up? takes about 10 mins.

The oils never going toget to full temp in that time. Dont rag it and all should be fine. It takes about 10 to 15 mins after the coolant temp has reached normal for my oil temp to get to normal so that gives you an idea

You may have to replace your oil more frequent than normal, as it could get a bit sludgy, seeing as it won't get up to temp and not fully 'dry out'.

That said, my daily commute is only 5.5m, and the oil seems fine.

Engines are more efficient when they are hot, if your not getting it hot then you have a larger issue with condensation and carbon build up both are not good for your engine....
