Hi can anyone help me please i come off motorway today and stopped at the lights and see smoke coming out from the bonnet so pulled over lifted the bonnet and the right hand side off the engine (dip stick side) was covered in engine oil so let the car cool down and checked the water and the tank was empty so filled it back up as i was doin this i noticed the dip stick was hanging out so i pushed it back in went to the petrol station and jet washed the oil off and drove home when i got home checked again and the dip stick was hanging out again and the engine was covered in oil again and the water was gone i checked the water over flow tank and it is a dirty brown gunky slug colour this does mean the head gasket has gone dont it any help with be gratefull whats the easyest way to do them is it to remove the engine? please help someone

 

sounds like it mate.if the oil and water have mixed and its using alot of water that would explain where the water has gone! as for dipstick poping out,that could be excess pressure in the engine from headgasket possably?????

DON'T drive it any more, unless you want a big bill for bottom end too, which you may already have

Get it done at a Scoob specialists, NOT a local back-street guy. I made that mistake, ended up costing me a new engine

i would say remove engine that way u can get round everything easy.

 

might be worth using uprated gaskets this time round

 

found some steel multi layer head gaskets set on ebay and was going to use them

 

Well, I'll try a SECOND response, being as my first was ignored.

Engine out, yes.
Rest of engine checked, yes, seeing as it's been driven with the problem, you could easily have done damage to the bottom end.
Uprated gaskets? Not necessary, the OE ones are fine UNLESS:
1. You are running uprated power, or
2. The heads and/or blocks need to be machined, in which case a thicker gasket needs fitted to keep the cr the same.

it still might be worth putting uprated gaskets just incase later on u get the tuning bug and decide to run more power,but do agree with alcazar and what he said.
