Possible power loss in 2nd?
I noticed this issue initially a while back, but it seemed to go away - but this morning I noticed it again. I drive an RB5.
When cruising in 2nd gear at around 3-3.5k RPM, when I accelerate hard there seems to be a definite lack of power, as though I hit a wall and the power delivery just flattens out - then when changing up to third the power seems to come back.
Like I say, it seems like an intermittent problem and doesn't seem to do it if I just accelerate through the gears - only when I cruise in 2nd then accelerate.
I'm considering booking the car into a rolling road as, for a start I'd like to see what my power's actually at, and they'll be able to pick up on an issue like this? Anyone have any suggestions for a good rolling road in the cambridge area?
Also, any ideas on what the problem might be would be great.
Cheers!

Ahh, the old classic scoob's half boost in second.
All pre 1998 EU market Imprezas will hold back boost to 0.5bar in second gear if the revs are held at a highish speed (3k+ rpm) under light throttle. Full boost is restored by either changing gear or backing completely off and re-aplying full throttle.
Unfortnately its made like that to get around some stupid EU type approval thing.
You can learn to drive round it; As there really is no need to buzz round in second at 3K rpm unless your following a tractor or like to waste fuel. In which case stay in third gear then drop into second when you need to overtake.
...Or get an aftermarket ECU.

You're kidding! How odd, lol.
Though - the RB5 is a 99 car, not 98? Would it still effect a 99?
If it is that - then that's good, hopefully it's not a fault with the car.
Would be interested to hear more info on this and why it exists - it intrigues me!
Thanks for the reply mate.
