Default Weird problem when starting.

Hi guys,

I've got a bit of a strange and intermittent problem when starting my car:

It's a 2002 UK WRX. 7/10 times the car starts perfectly and first time. But occasionally, and its becoming more regular, it doesnt want to start - the starter motor fires and the car tries to start, and sounds like its almost going to, but then then doesnt - The sound it makes is as if the battery is draining all the power and is about to die, so i'll stop, leave it 5 mins, try again and it starts perfectly!

Has anyone else had this problem?

The starter motor is doing its job, the battery seems to work fine, so I'm at a loss as to what it could be?! Spark plugs maybe?

Any help of advise much appreciated!

Put digital voltmeter across the battery, check the voltage does not drop more than 2 volts while cranking.Put voltmeter from earth terminal on battery to engine casing crank,if a reading comes up bad earth, the same earth terminal to clean body panel crank,if reading comes up bad earth.
