Default Swapping engine's

What would I need to put a V- reg engine into my 1997 uk turbo?

I know the injectors are different phases, can I use my existing clutch and

flywheel? I have a 3 pin ecu, is it possible to connect this to the other

engine?

Thanks

if you just use the short block, its easy, aslong as you work out the right comp ratio.

I'd get a garage to carry out the work, so is it possible to use my ecu? The engine would

be the whole engine

Short block only, a phase 2 engine will not mate up with a phase 1.5 manifold. use your existing heads.

sorry, what do you mean by short block?

The engine will come with heads and an inlet manifold, my car is a 1997 uk

turbo with an apexi ecu, the other car is a version 6 wrx sti engine,

just wondering about wiring for the ecu, clutch and flywheel, if mine will go

on, or if I need to get those bits together first?

I understand what you are saying, sorry , was a bit slow, so I would need new rocker cover

gaskets, can I use my clutch and flywheel? This will be a long term project so I will have

time to get the bits together!

Your clutch and flywheel will be fine but u would ahve to use your cylinder heads as the inlet manifolds are different (they have a different set up for the idle control and the bolt pattern is different) If it is a v6sti engine the main diff is the heads you would be better off trying to find a v3/4 sti as then the whole eng will just drop in and u will get the benefit of sti heads with the v6 eng u will still be limited by your uk heads.

So, can I use the v6 inlet manifold, or do I have to use v3/4?

If using v.3/4 heads you have no choice but to use v.3/4 IM.

If using v.5/6 heads you have no choice but to use v.5/6 IM.

But unless you're handy with an angle grinder/welding, then you can fit the v.3/4 IM to v.5/6 heads. See here:-

Impreza Inlet Manifold Adaptors (Ph.1/1.5 > Ph.2)

So you'd need those adaptors to get the correct v.3/4 IM's to v.5/6 head's bolt hole positions... and also will have to cut/extend/weld the v.3/4 IM.

Hmm, so I could get hold of some sti 3/4 heads, and the IM to go with them, or just use my IM, is there any difference in a uk IM and an sti one?

Thanks for the answers

Think all IM's for any given MY are the same - regardless of UK/WRX/STi.

Yeah easiest route is to get a set of v.3/4 heads and use your old knackered engine's v.3/4 IM on them. If you pay £350 odd for a set of the STi v.3/4 heads, then you will be future proofed to anything up to c.460-500bhp.

Then you can sell the v.5/6 heads from the new engine off that V-reg car, as even the WRX/UK versions are still good heads, and should find a buyer...
