Default Clutch problem

Hey guys, my mate has an Evo VII, it has an Exedy Carbon clutch in it and when he put his foot down it slips as it comes on boost!

Now he's just bought it an the garage is saying that it's a track orientated clutch and needs to be warm to use it properly, even though we went out the other night for a blast and it still does it when it's warm!

When it starts to slip he let's off slightly and comes back on boost, it's hit and miss! Is the garage full of crap and trying to get out of changing the clutch?

Cheers for your help guys

Has your mate had the clutch of 'his choice' fitted at a garage, or has he bought the E*o from a dealer of some sort with the clutch already fitted and is trying to get the dealer to change it??

If it's the former then it could be wrongly fitted in some way.

The latter then he should really of felt it on the test drive.

He bought it with it already fitted, the dealer said the same on the test drive but unfortunately didn't get the chance to get it properly up to temp! It's been parked up foe a couple of months while he went on holiday and sorted insurance out etc!

There's some of the dealers warranty left so fingers crossed he'll get it sorted soon!

Tell him to take the car back and make them put it right! I made the same mistake with my car and a **** clutch and its just cost me a shed load of money to replace, like a idiot i wanted more things done to it than were needed lol.

Maybe oil contamination. Otherwise it has been abused and/or not run in properly. Needing warming up refers to preparation for launching at drag races and shouldn't be needed for normal use.

Like you said, the garage is full of crap! However, you do hear of a number of Exedy clutches giving problems eg slip, judder etc.
