Default Modded Classic......what next?

Having recently bought an X reg Classic UK Turbo that has been modded,i was just wondering where i could take the car next power wise whilst still maintaining reliability.

So far the car has had.....

TSL/Ecutek Remap
TSL Thundercat Downpipe
Decat Centre
TSL/Green Air Filter (panel)
Uprated Fuel Pump
Backbox (not sure which one as i couldn't put my hand on the receipt, but possibly a Ninja from memory)

I assume that because the car has already had an Ecutek remap (even though it was in November 2005) that i have the "licence" and that any future remaps would be cheaper??

The car is still on the original turbo (car has done 50k with a proper 6 monthly service history from new) and has a Exedy Clutch which i assume will handle a bit more than the 270-280bhp i believe the car to be currently running.

Any help will be much appreciated .

all depends how much you wanna spend....

maybe a bigger turbo vf35 will see you over the 300 bhp

with a ecu tek remap and these will be cheaper as you have the licence

id say a vf series turbo or the td05 16g and a 3 port boost solenoid will help.

As said your standard turbo is at its limit at that power. For more power you`ll need a turbo change.

How much would i be looking at for that sort of upgrade?

With regards the remap licence, should i have something in the paperwork i have for the car or is it something that an Ecutek mapper can tell when they plug into my ECU because other than a receipt from TSL i don't have anything else and i'm led to believe that they are no longer running?

i thought they are still running...?

the mapper should be able to plug in and say if its got a licence,
the turbo is round £250 for a good one, always good to replace the gaskets aswel

as above your turbo is on the limit 280 bhp

if you go for a td05 make sure it is a front entry turbo

Mmmm, doesn't matter too much anyway as i would be looking for a mapper closer to where i live and the car now resides in my care!!

I assume from the price and the way you word your answer that would be a secondhand price, which TBH i would be looking at getting a new one to maintain my car's previous care and expenditure.

What would become the weak link above 300bhp as i wouldn't want my engine going pop?

The drivetrain will start to become the weakest link above 300ft/lbs of torque in my opinion. Was on my MY99 anyway, depends how you drive it though. Engine should be ok up to 350bhp, think around 300-330 is the norm for VF series turbo and supporting mods. If your looking for more then that you will be needing an even bigger turbo, larger injectors and a forged engine.

Turbo and remap should get you to 300+. Maybe a ported exhaust manifold, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, larger top mount intercooler and a 3-port boost solenoid while your at it.
