Default Overfilling Oil on a Subaru Turbo Engine...

When should you worry?

i remmeber when i first bought the car and my mate did the oil change, he accidently filled to the dash instead of the second hole.. on first start.. the engine management light came on.. leading us to find the oil overfilled..

anyways just had an oil change dont few days ago and checked the oil today and it is slightly over the second dot on a cold engine.. should i worry? or will it be ok? should i get it sucked out?

also which side of the dipstick do you check for the level? i take it the side wihich has 'L' and 'F'?

as when you turn it over you get a different reading.

cheers

just get a tray under your car and loosen the sump plug / oil filter and drain some out, take you 10mins

and yeh side that has the L and F, for more accurate reading you want the oil to be 'warm'

IMO slightly over the top dot when cold is perfect and this is how i do mine. overfilling by a little will cause no damage. under filling is more likey to be a problem..

Start car for 1 min, turn off, wait 1 min, check oil level, just below max level (F) is where wants to be. Never over fill scoobies they dont like it at all, just as bad as low oil.

Overfilling can be as catastrophic as underfilling.

Check the oil when warm, on a flat surface and drain some if it still reads overfull.

over filling by a small amount is not the end of the world. overfilling by a large amount is a problem. just above the top dot is a small amount. the dipstick on the scooby is awful anyway.
