hi, am going to fit a catless sti up pipe to my 51 wrx. is it worth me fitting myself as i have a little knowledge but haven't done this before, will also be fitting bugger turbo if i do up pipe myself. mate will be mapping afterwards, is it easy to work around the absence of the egt sensor,i.e get rid of cel light?

Hmmmm im smelling disaster here
There is a fix for the cel light, but you cannot just bung on a bigger turbo without supporting mods like injectors etc, the td04 is probably your best option for now, and your "mate", is he a tried and tested mapper with all the correct equipment or is he going to play with open source maps on your car?

ive got all the supporting mods, injectors, full decat, walbro fuel pump etc. and my mate has mapped his 20g and 4 or 5 other cars and they're all sound, he knows what he is doing. Hopefully.

 

Decat uppipe is a worthwhile mod - will increase spool and help the turbo to hold boost at higher RPM. The CEL fix is a case of fitting a 2k ohm resistor on the wires in place of the sensor, after you have used the car a few times the cel will disappear.

Get your car mapped immediately and by an approved mapper, unless you trust your mate and he has proven results, this is most definitely a mod that you do not want to get wrong as it will be costly !!
