Unhappy Engine problem

I have owned an 03 WRX Blobeye Scooby 4 just less than a year.

Took it for its 1st service since I'v owned it, and BANG , they have given me an estimated bill to replace the small motor of £2500 , has this happened to anyone else, My engine makes a slight ticking, cant say I feel like its lost power.

A month ago, my alternator belt had broken, I replace that which is also for my power steering, then replaced my aircon belt as that had been slightly damaged too.

Is this related, can anyone give me some help.

From what Iv seen when looking it seems that the 2001 -03 modles have had a few of this problems, and I have been sugested into gettin an Reconed engine to replace mine.

Any help is great thanks Jamie

Oh Sorry If you strugle reading this, Im not a great speller.

Did it go bang AFTER the service (or at least after the oil/filter change), per chance......?!

Or are you saying it went during the journey TO the garage?
