Default Squeaky Aircon

I have a bit of a problem that reared its ugly head today. My aircon belt/pump squeaks but only when aircon is on (ie. the button depressed and light on), and the aircon is actually spinning (the wheel/cog or whatever it is). When I switch the aircon switch off the squeak goes.

Does anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like the belt is slipping under load - which is only when the AC is turned on, try tightening the belt.

The belt feels tight, could it be anything to do with the pump as it sounds more of a metallic squeak?

Right, this seems to go when the car gets up to temp. Its so annoying, does anyone have any experience of this, as when I move the belt, it moves only slightly, so is not loose, in my eyes anyway?

Help!

Right, here we go again. When the aircon is selected, the pulley seems to labour, as though the clutch or whatever the system of running the pump is is not lubed up? Is the aircon pump/compressor clutch system repairable or serviceable?

Hi ya, I suppose if it has been assembled it can be rebuilt but is it worth it? My A/C compressor has a rumbling bearing that can be heard above the exhaust so I have sourced another compressor for £30 + P+P from that web site. Might be more cost effective to do that? Don't forget you need to have the gas professionally recovered, then change the compressor then have it regassed.
