Default Limp Home mode?

I have a 2003 wagon with HKS panel filter, walbro 255, Prodrive backbox and middle decat pipe. When I start the car up and drive it, its ok for about 10-15 mins then it drove like cr*p, almost like there wasnt much boost, I took a friend out with me who also has a scoob, and he said he thought the ecu was putting the car into limp home mode. Also there was a whistle coming from somewhere (like a kettle), but the whistle was happening before it started driving bad.

I'm pretty sure it was doing this before any of the before mentioned mods were done to the car, although I didnt hear the whistle before I did these mods.

Any ideas?

Thanks very much

Forget the whistling, a hole in the backbox appeared whilst on our test drive, still have the intermittent limp home problem.

No it hasnt been mapped yet.

Really? Those mods would put it into limp home mode? Mate has a bugeye with same mods except he has standard pump and his is fine.

The only engine bay mod is the filter

If it's going into limp mode then the ECU should throw a CEL as it thinks something is seriously wrong and wants to protect the engine.........is the CEL light on ??

Dont know if its in limp home mode, just know that after you have given it a fair bit of welly, it starts driving very slow and doesnt boost very well. Dont have a boost gauge though, which would probably help!

Didnt understand that sentence, dont think its the solenoid. Could the exhaust blowing cause this?

I wonder if it's one of the boost pipes to and from the intercooler.......loose clip and the pipe getting warmer and leaking more boost as it gets more flexible with temp ?

Wild stab in the dark though ?

We have now changed the maf, boost solenoid,re-circ dv, and sort of checked the actuator but to no avail......all lights go out on the dashboard and now seems to be doing the problem all the time which to be honest is preferable.

Any other ideas?

p.s cheers for all the replys so far.

I also dont think its a limp home mode anymore as the car is still fast, but doesnt throw you back in your seat anymore, it just seems to lack grunt, wonder if my turbo is fubar?

Mine has been putting me backing into my seat loads until yesterday, i'm liking Midlife's idea about the intercooler pipes, because that would be an easy fix. Also thinking something to do with the actuator, or the turbo going, although no smoke. I assume it wouldnt be the head gasket/s as heater is working fine, coolant not going down and no mayo visible at all.

Backbox has now got a blow, could this contribute of is it a coincidence?
