ive got a standard uk turbo (rb5) and i use 10w40 semi syn. i think it depends on how modified your motor is.

Semi-synthetic is the basic choice, a good enough oil to give an okay level of protection. The full synthetic is a better lubricant that will give better protection to the engine. Even if the engine is standard, the better synthetic oil will provide more protection.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but is it better to use a 10W 50 oil if the outside temp is constantly 38 to 40 degrees C? I have had a look at an electronic copy of the Impeza manual but it only covers from -22 to +36.

If Subaru does endorse/recommend a brand I would guess its financial. The engine is desinged to run on a viscosity, SAE40 so the 10w-40 grade you have chosen is bang on for our UK climate. What the oil is made from and quality is down to the owner as engines as yet do not know what the oil is made from.

If you went for the Millers Synthetic 10w-40 it is very good quality and you can rest assured oil wise, your doing the best for it.

A good quality 10w-50 synthetic would be ideal, you can also use a 15w-50.

Yes that is hot! I am moving to Spain and taking the Scoob with me, the temps are 38 to 40 out there at the moment and I figured that a 10 50 or 15 50 would be better suited, guess I'll change the oil just before I go
