Default ECU from a 98 STi on a 97 STi

Hi!

Quick question:

Can I use an ECU from an 98 STi on a 97? Both are imports from Japan.

Thanks

I would say no at a guess, the V3 car has a vf23 turbo, the v4 a vf24 turbo, so the mapping would be out to start with.

Hello buddy. It depends. If the 98 is a Version 4 or 5 and the 97 a Version 3 or 4 then you'll probably find that because the V4 has the smaller VF24 turbo and the V3 has VF23 that the ecu maps will be somewhat different. But if they are both V4s then it shouldn't be a problem.

I may be wrong but I'm sure someone will be able to clarify this if you could provide a little more info

I thought the WRX had the 24 and the STi had the 23... regardless of whether MY97 or MY98?! No?

MY97 STi: VF23

MY98 STi: VF24

I thought the VF22 was an option for the 22B - the 23 being the factory fit for it.

Surely they didn't fit the relatively 'big' 22 to the WRX?! Blimey!

Mind, I suppose that'd make the STi feel more responsive, what with its 23/24...

Hmmm.. Many different answers

I run with a greddy boostcontroller, don't know if that makes any differents? It will still be able to justify to 1,2bar, that it makes?

Is there any other differents, or could I just contact the guy and ask witch turbo his STi came with?

The point of asking is because I have tried everything to get rid of the CEL on the IACV, and I am wondering if maybe the ECU is not completely working anymore. And there is a guy in Norway that has a ECU from his MY98 STi, that he does'nt use. So I could borrow it to see if it got any better.

Mine is an V3 and i suppose that his is an V4.

Thanks for all your reply's
