As said above your car will not pass the road side emmissions, and not loads to be gained if you have a decent sports cat compared to a full decat.
Regarding road side test ,i personally have never seen one, unless it is a drink drive campaign or usual ANPR road side checks

Basically the law changed on 1st jan 1993 that it was a legal requirement for all cars from that date sold in the UK to have cats fitted, there is a little bit more that people think doesnt apply to imports, but it does and the last bit also is that cars produced from 1989 that have cats as standard also have to have them fitted as a legal requirement.

Lets be serious here they're gona have to be seriously bored to bother pulling you to check emissions I'd be more worried about the hassle of swapping it back for MOT time each year or the possibility of them stopping you for a noise check as this has happened to me.

I've seen VOSA roadside checks in East Yorkshire and they do pick on Subarus as they know there is a good chance of nailing a decat. AFAIK its a £30 fixed penalty and proof from an MOT station that the "fault" has been corrected within some statutory period. Hardly a big deal but a bit inconvenient.

I will be putting my 1993 import in for a gas test to see what its like soon. No cat at all on it. As it dosent show up in the testers book, then it is tested at the 1992 emission figures , will see if its ok.
