Hi Guys, im a bit confused at the moment as im ging to do my timing belt.

I have been told to tighten the crank bolt to 177nm and thats it but having looked at the workshop manual its saying a totally different method which i cant get my head around.

Any help and a point in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

Pretty sure this should be 180nm (130lb/ft ish)

Don't use threadlock. Aside from the fact that it'd make absolutely no difference at these levels of torque, you should oil the bolt threads lightly prior to assembly. Oil and threadlock don't mix.

The correct tightening sequence is a two stage process involving a stretch test. As Duncan says the current version involves a 180Nm final torque.

Tighten to 44Nm, mark the position of the bolt flange relative to the pulley, tighten to 180Nm, mark again and then measure the angle the bolt has been turned between the two. If it's less than 65 degrees the bolt is worn and should be replaced.

If you do fit a new one, the installation procedure is 44Nm and then a further angular tighten between 65 and 75 degrees.

You have just made sense to me as i couldnt understand what it was saying if only what you wrote was on the workshop cd then all would have been hunky dorey.
