I took my 98 classic STI Import for its anuall MOT test on sat and it failed on emissions I have took it to the same place for the last 3 years with no problems, it was booked in for a diagnostic test today to find out what the problem was, the Mechanics words "he couldn't get the car to talk to the machine" it kept crashing the machine so I am still in the dark as to what the problem is, my MOT runs out at the end of the month so need to get a wiggle on would anyone be able to help or advise me please?

 

Ok firstly, there is quite a possibility his computer won't be able to read your car. Are you aware you can check these codes yourself, by connecting the black plugs under your dash and Reading the flash codes.
Has anything on your car changed over the last 3 years ie exhaust? Can you tell us what it failed on hc, co or lambda?

 

i know Daz, and theres been no change or mods to the car, although had a maf sensor last year. dont know if that makes a difference? puzzler.
