The idle is not sitting at 500rpm. The tacho reads, Zero, then 500rpm is the next bar. So if it's roughly between zero and 1000 the idle is about 750rpm which is about right as the actual idle speed is 700rpm.

The "flat spot" is just a function of how the throttle is controlled, the boost will start to come in at 2500rpm so you're probably feeling some slight lag even that low down. The throttle is controlled differently in S and S# mode hence why it is less of a problem.

Basically this is how the car is from stock and while I suspect a proper second opinion from an expert (who can drive and/or datalog the car) would be prudent I think it's a case of don't worry about it, get an exhaust & remap, or get another car.

As Paul said ^

I Mode just dulls down the throttle pedal even more so that lots of movement in the pedal doesnt equate to lots of movement in the actual throttle. This would be doubling the effect of the flat spot.

Where are you based ?

Can you explain what you mean by 'not smooth' ?

I presume you are using Vpower or Tesco 99 fuel ?
