im building my engine, and wonded if its better to put an uprated one on.
or did the sti v7 have a better presure pump on?

will save me a little time by not changing it

The WRX and STi V7's oil pumps are known to have problems with a sticking pressure relief valve. The way to get over this is to fit a modified oil pump. This pressure issue wasn't rectified until later from 2005 onwards.

I had an engine failure on my bugeye WRX wagon due to this oil pump issue which prompted me to fit a later V.8 STi engine. RCM modified pumps have the oil pressure issue sorted with a modified relief valve and the oilways are honed and polished.

i do have one on my other engine.
but i noticed, once the oil is warm. the presure is quite low, but any throttle you give. it shoots right up

i was just wondering if i should change them over
the pump only did around 2k.
already got new seals too

 

That's a personal choice and something only you can decide.

IMHO i think you're better off going to the small expense of fitting a modified pump because then you can fit and forget. It's all about fitting quality parts that will give you peace of mind.

You can get a modified pump (doesn't have to be an RCM pump) for less than £200. That's a fracton of the price of a rebuild.

as im sure they modify them for around £100
the one i have on my engine in the car at the mo, that has the uprated release valve ect
but im selling that engine, and really as a selling point want to keep it on. there also sti v4 pistons in that engine too

i'll see what api say, then take it from there.
