Default What could it be??

Trying to solve a problem on my mates scoob after it had its lamda sensor wiring melt on the exhaust, causing it to shortout and fuse the wiring that runs along side it within the loom just upto the brake master cylinder. I had cut back all the damaged wiring and joined on fresh new wiring in its place. Had the car started up and ran fine.
A month later my mate said he left the car for a few days and when he went to go start it the battery was flat. Managed to jumpstart it no problem then the same thing happened a few days later. So looked into it and noticed the idle control was buzzing away even when the key was out the ignition and left for a while.
So my question is could a short on the left hand bank of the engine affect the right hand side aswell? Because from what i thought i saw when i was re-wiring is that the left hand side of the loom went into the drivers side of the firewall?
Can anyone tell me where the idle control valve wiring runs so i can use a multimeter to trace where the short may be?
Or any other advice would be appreciated other than some petrol and a match

I don't have a version 2 workshop manual on my web space but i do have a version 3 workshop manual.

Is yours a 4 plug or 3plug ECU??

The reason i ask is because if it was a late 96 reg car it might be a version 3 with the 3plug ECU in which case i can help with a workshop manual.

ETA: The workshop manual has detailed schematics of the electrical systems/wiring loom of your car.

Yep...If you cannot get hold of a workshop manual then the only other option will be to either change the idle control valve as that may have sustained electrical damage and it will be easy to change, or worse case scenario swap out the cabin wiring loom, you won't need a workshop manual for that.
